5 Ways To Decorate Your Apartment On A Budget

It goes without saying that decorating the space you call your home can be fun, expensive, and stressful. Everything details from the never-ending search to find the perfect aesthetic to executing it without breaking the bank. No one wants to sit in an empty apartment with empty walls, correct? Well check out these 5 ways for you to spice up your apartment without breaking the bank!

  1. Paint your own wall art. You don’t need to paint the next Picasso, but try expressing your inner artist by buying 8x10 canvases at your nearest craft store and giving it a go! Start by choosing a color scheme that matches your interior (walls, furniture, floors, etc). Once you have a color scheme picked out, get inspired by searching on Pinterest for some ideas. Try typing in  “DIY Wall Art” and see what happens! Painting a 3-piece collection will help you decide what other decor to pick out that will match. You’ll save a ton of money, and impress your guests too!

  2. Buy a throw rug. This is probably the easiest way to add some color or statement into your living space. Although rugs can be expensive, try searching on Facebook Marketplace for used throw rugs (in good condition!) that will match the vibes of your apartment. Or check out Homegoods for some sweet deals!

  3. Indoor House Plants. Whether you have a green thumb or not, indoor greenery can really light up the room. You don’t have to break the bank when purchasing plants either, try going to your local farmer’s market or finding someone in your neighborhood who has a nursery. If you think you are incapable of keeping a plant alive-- don’t worry! Buying a fake plant will give the illusion of real plants (without the hassle).

  4. Thrift shop for vintage household decor. The thrift shop is an amazing place, where you can truly find anything you’re looking for at a massively discounted price. Grab a friend and dedicate a Saturday to searching the thrift stores for vintage decor, like a record player or little household accessories you can use to spice up the room. My go-to thrift shop purchase is a vintage mirror with accessories to pair. Try it out!

  5. Seasonal decor. Decorating for the different seasons of the year is the best way to bring personality to your living space. Again, you don’t need to spend $300 at Target to do this. Try searching at local garage sales, Facebook Marketplace, and the thrift store! This will help you decorate your apartment while keeping to a budget. A win/win for all.

Decorating your living space doesn’t have to mean breaking the bank. Start with one area or wall of your apartment and decorate it from there, building your apartment’s vibe slowly but surely. Before you know it, you’ll have lots of personality shining through your home in no time!
